George Peretz QC (England and Wales) BL (Ireland) is a barrister practising from Monckton Chambers in London and from the Law Library of Ireland in Dublin. George has practised in the area of competition law and State aid for nearly 30 years, and has extensive experience of representing private clients and competition authorities in the CAT, Court of Appeal, and the European Court of Justice. Recent highlights including representing the European Commission in the General Court and ECJ in the “pay for delay” cases (Lundbeck and Servier) and in the air cargo litigation, as well as for HMRC in the High Court State aid claim by Credit Suisse (a claim that the 2010 “bankers’ bonus tax” was unlawful State aid). He is Co-Chair of the Joint Working Party on Competition Law of the UK Bars and Law Societies and Joint Convenor of the UK State Aid Law Association, and has recently given oral evidence to the House of Commons BEIS Select Committee on State and Competition Law as well as to the Public Bill Committee on the Subsidy Control Bill. He has written widely on competition and State aid issues including contributions to leading text books, academic articles as well as articles for a wider audience and commentary on competition law, State aid law and Brexit on social media (@GeorgePeretzQC on Twitter).
