Trevor SoamesPartner at Quinn Emanuel Urquhart & Sullivan LLP
Trevor Soames has been a specialist in European and UK competition and regulatory law for more than 30 years with a special interest in air transportation. His experience stretches back to the very earliest aviation competition cases prior to the adoption of the first package of air transport liberalisation measures in 1987 and the adoption of the EU merger regulation in 1989. Ever since then he has had the privilege of being involved in - and leading -many of the most important and often ground-breaking, precedent-setting competition cases before the EU Commission and national authorities for airlines (scheduled and chartered), airports, governments and aviation authorities in the fields of merger control, alliances and collaboration arrangements, state aid, abuse of dominance. In addition, his experience includes regulatory issues and litigation relating to GDSs, ownership and control in the context of operating licences as well as national CAA traffic rights and scarce capacity proceedings. He is a well-known advocate; a barrister and bencher of the Middle Temple; a solicitor advocate; and, importantly, a fully qualified Avocat au Barreau de Bruxelles entitled to practise.
Before the EU Courts and with essential legal professional privilege after the UK leaves the EU in 2019. He has been resident, and worked, in Brussels (with a foothold in London) since 1993.
