Claes Gustafsson, Ph.D.Chief Commercial Officer and Co-Founder at ATUM
ATUM’s Co-Founder and CCO Dr. Gustafsson pioneered and published on bioengineering driven by machine learning already back at Umeå University, Sweden 1993. After post-doc at UCSC and UCSF he was one of the first scientists at Kosan (acquired by Bristol-Myers Squibb), and then joined Maxygen to run the bioinformatics dept. In 2003 Claes and three colleagues from Maxygen founded DNA2.0, later renamed ATUM, to industrialize the implementation of machine learning and synthetic biology in biotechnology. The company today provides synthetic genes, protein production, protein engineering and transposon-mediated cell line development to customers ranging from protein pharma to food industry.
