Catherine Burton was appointed as an Insolvency and Companies Court Judge in 2018. Having qualified as a solicitor at Simmons & Simmons in 1993, she spent the majority of her career specialising in restructuring and insolvency work for DLA Piper’s International Restructuring Group.
She was a member of the UK delegation at UNCITRAL for its work on cross border group enterprise insolvency, served as a member of the Treasury’s Bank Liaison Panel (whose statutory role is to consider secondary legislation for insolvent banks and financial institutions) served for eight years as a member of the Bankruptcy and Companies Court Users Committee, and for over twelve years as a member of R3’s General Technical Committee. She is a consultant editor for Doyle and Keay’s Insolvency Legislation: Annotations and Commentary.
