Vittorio RossiFull Professor in Plant Pathology , Department of Sustainable Crop Production at Università Cattolica del Sacro Cuore
Profile
Professor Vittorio Rossi is Full Professor in Plant Pathology at the Department of Sustainable Crop Protection (DIPROVES) of the University of Piacenza. His main research activity concerns the study of plant pathogens, with particular attention to biological, ecological and epidemiological aspects. These studies have been aimed at modeling the relationships between pathogens, host plants, and environmental conditions, using an innovative and original approach derived from the ‘systems analysis’. Several weather-driven, mechanistic, dynamic models have been developed for the main diseases of wheat, sugar beet, pome and stone fruit, grapevine and other crops. These models were evaluated under different epidemiological conditions, in different Countries, and are currently applied in disease warning systems and in decision support systems for crop protection within a sustainable approach to agriculture.
