Michael WielandSenior Director Application Services at Single Use Support
Mike Wieland started his career at Cytiva, then GE Healthcare Life Sciences, where he worked to improve and develop single use applications in manufacturing of biopharmaceutics. Over his decade-spanning career he continued to focus on working with single use applications in USP, DSP, and fill and finish, working at global players such as Sanofi Genzyme, PALL, and Sartorius. He quickly realized that single use materials offered many advantages over traditional glass and stainless steel systems and wanted to be part of implementing those relatively new technologies with the pharmaceutical industry. During my career in the biotech industry I witnessed the gradual replacement of traditional production methods with novel single use systems. However, the handling of bulk drug substance, or Bulk Steam as we call it at Single Use Support, has remained largely unchanged. I've seen everything from unprotected bags to glass bottles being used to store and transport high value products, with losses being unavoidable. When I was introduced to Single Use Support, RoSS.SHELL I immediately saw the enormous potential for the industry to modernize this part of the production process.
