Alexey IgnatevPostdoctoral Researcher at University of Jyvaskyla
Profile
Alexey Ignatev conducted his MSc and PhD research at Lomonosov Moscow State University (Russia) where he studied chemical kinetics of ozonation and advanced oxidation processes. Mathematical modelling was used to to determine the contributions of direct oxidation by ozone and indirect oxidation by hydroxil radical. Later, at Karlsruhe Institute of Technology (Germany), he studied application of photocatalysis and UV photolysis to remove endocrine disrupting compounds from water. Currently, he is a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Jyväskylä (Finland). He is developing an advanced analytical approach based on size-exclusion chromatography with UV-Vis and fluorescence detection for rapid fractionation and characterization of protein-like and humic/fulvic-like dissolved organic matter. This approach was successfully applied to monitor the efficiency of full-scale drinking and wastewater treatment plants. It is also a cornerstone in a recent project aimed to characterize and fingerprint humic substances extracted from Finnish peat and to study their biostimulant properties.
