Profile

Philip John (P.J.) Brooks is a program director in the Office of Rare Diseases Research at the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS), where he directs multiple research initiatives focused on platform therapeutic approaches applicable to multiple rare genetic diseases.  He is also the working group coordinator of the National Institutes of Health (NIH) Common Fund’s Somatic Cell Genome Editing program (https://commonfund.nih.gov/editing),  and the chair of the Interdisciplinary Scientific Committee of the International Rare Diseases Research Consortium (https://irdirc.org) .He earned his PhD in neurobiology from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and did a postdoctoral fellowship at the Rockefeller University. Prior to joining NCATS, he was an intramural investigator at the NIH, studying rare neurologic diseases resulting from defective DNA repair
