David Mudd (BSc(Hons), CEng, CMgr, FIET, FCMI, MILP)Global Head of Digital Trust Assurance at The British Standards Institution
David is responsible for BSIs portfolio of solutions for Digital Trust Assurance covering cybersecurity, privacy, IT governance and risk, supply chain, data management and Artificial Intelligence (AI). In the built environment sector, David is also supporting clients in building trust in “Smart Cities” and Building Information Modelling, general connected products such as “Internet of Things” (IoT) devices and software applications.
A respected, global thought leader on digital technologies and transformation, David also works directly with governments and key businesses around the world helping shape best practice and strategy on digital trust, and new technologies such as next-generation communications (5G, next-generation WiFi…etc), distributed ledger systems (e.g. Blockchain), IoT and AI.
Originally training as an electronics engineer with the British Broadcasting Company, David then served as an Engineering Officer in the Royal Air Force, involving aspects of electronic warfare, secure communications and cryptography. Subsequently, David has managed development of a major secure IT system for UK Ministry of Defence, managed development of telecommunications laser systems, and sales of capital equipment for micro-electronics manufacturing, before moving into LED Lighting in 2007. Managing a business unit developing specialized high-performance LED systems for architectural, TV/Film, industrial and medical applications, this led to into “smart lighting” and “smart homes/buildings” incorporating IoT technology. David then directed sales and provided consultancy for a lighting and general IoT business before joining BSI in 2017.
