Susan Sharfstein, PhD
Professor of Nanobioscience at SUNY Polytechnic Institute


Susan Sharfstein is a Professor of Nanobioscience at SUNY Polytechnic Institute in Albany, New York. Professor Sharfstein received her B.S. in chemical engineering with honors from Caltech in 1987 and her Ph.D. in chemical engineering from UC Berkeley in 1993. After postdoctoral studies at Berkeley and UCLA, Dr. Sharfstein joined the faculty at the University of Toledo in Bioengineering in 1996. In 2000, she received an NSF award to study glycobiology at the NY State Wadsworth Laboratories. In 2001, she joined the Department of Chemical and Biological Engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and in 2010, she joined the faculty at SUNY Polytechnic Institute. She is the author of over 65 papers and book chapters in the fields of biotechnology and bioprocessing and was a 2017-18 recipient of a Fulbright Global Scholar award.
