Brigitte GasserProfessor at BOKU
Profile
Brigitte Gasser is Associate Professor for Microbial Systems Biotechnology at the Institute of Microbiology and Microbial Biotechnology (IMMB) at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences Vienna (BOKU) and a key researcher in the Austrian Centre of Industrial Biotechnology (acib). Her research focusses on the comprehensive understanding of protein folding and secretion in the yeast Pichia pastoris, and on the design and development of improved cell factories using systems and synthetic biology.
Since 2017, she is Head of the Christian Doppler Laboratory for growth-decoupled protein production in yeast, where she and her team investigate the cellular responses connecting cell growth and protein production, and design cell engineering strategies leading to enhanced recombinant protein secretion.
In this field, Brigitte Gasser has published more than 90 papers and 17 patents, and received several prizes, among them the prestigious Kardinal Innitzer Foundation Award for outstanding young Austrian scientists in 2015. In 2019, Brigitte Gasser was awarded as BOKU Inventor of the Year.
