Profile
Maria João Sebastião is a senior research associate at the Animal Cell Technology Unit of iBET, Portugal. She has a degree in Biology and finished the PhD in Biological Engineering from MIT-Portugal/ITQB-NOVA, in 2019. Her PhD research was focused on myocardium regeneration, namely in the development of in vitro models of acute myocardial infarction and proteomic characterization of cardiac populations. She did part of her PhD studies at Tygenix (now Takeda, Spain). Maria's research interests are mainly related to upstream processing and ‘omics characterization tools. Currently, she is also focused on cell line development for production of biopharmaceuticals.
