Michael Karbiener, PhD
Head of Virological Method & Assay Development at Global Pathogen Safety at Takeda

Profile

Michael Karbiener obtained a PhD in Biomedical Engineering from Graz University of Technology, where he elucidated the role of small non-coding RNAs in stem cell differentiation and metabolism, a work for which he was honoured at the international DSM Bright Science Awards. He then spent several years as postdoctoral researcher at the Medical University of Graz, working on the development of tissue engineering techniques to treat laryngeal disorders. In 2018 he joined Takeda’s Global Pathogen Safety group, under the lead of Thomas R. Kreil, to focus on the validation of novel antiviral treatments, as well as the large-scale analysis of immunological assays.
