Jody KlifferProject Manager at Saint John Land Bank
Jody Kliffer has a deep passion for cities and all the processes and policies that make them work. He has a background in urban planning with a master’s degree from UBC, which afforded him the opportunity to work as a city planner for over 10 years with the City of Saint John. In that time, Jody's office built a new municipal plan for the City, developed a new zoning bylaw, development incentive programs, and neighbourhood plans. His research area for many of these policy documents was often related to development and housing, including affordable housing through zoning modifications and incentives. Jody's research at UBC focused on land banking in America as an effective tool to combat neighbourhood decline and return derelict properties to productive use. The research was an attempt to illustrate the potential benefits a land bank could have in his hometown of Saint John, NB, which later resulted in the impetus from the not-for-profit community to build a land bank in Saint John.
