Tom SchiavonManager, Clinical Systems at Ultragenyx Pharmaceutical Inc.
Tom is currently serving in a clinical systems role for Ultragenyx Pharmaceutical, overseeing IRT, CTMS, and medical device systems and processes. Most recently, he worked as an IRT project manager at Amgen, operating as a liaison between clinical teams and vendors, contributed to a departmental training redesign, and dominated party games at holiday potlucks. Previously, he built and managed international technical support and data management teams at endpoint clinical, growing the team fourfold and managing the implementation of a service ticketing system. He later transitioned to a role as an IRT build project manager, where he also developed training materials to empower internal personnel and end users. He has managed projects in the therapeutic areas of hematology & oncology, pain, bone, cardiovascular, and dermatology, from early-phase oncology through post-marketing studies.
He graduated summa cum laude with a B.A in Philosophy and History from Florida Gulf Coast University, where he also earned an M.A. in English. He has published several articles on process improvement, change management, and making IRT concepts more accessible to sponsor study management personnel. A humanities wonk by training, he loves the chaos and innovation involved in overcoming rare diseases with no approved treatment.
