George M. Chalos is the principal and founding member of CHALOS & Co, P.C. Mr. Chalos received his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration from the University of Vermont and his Juris Doctor degree from St. John's University School of Law. Mr. Chalos has been engaged in the practice of maritime, admiralty and insurance law for more than twenty-five (25) years, and is experienced in all facets of civil and criminal maritime matters. He is recognized as a leading advocate in high profile marine casualty and pollution cases, including the defense of Marpol & Act to Prevent Pollution from Ships (“APPS”) investigations and prosecutions, Oil Pollution Act of 1990 ("OPA '90") claims, Ports & Waterways Safety Act (“PWSA”), Clean ·Water Act ("CWA"), and VGP enforcement matters, as well as US sanction compliance, cross-border investigations and enforcement. Mr. Chalos has been counsel of record in well over fifteen hundred (1500) civil and criminal maritime matters, in over twenty (20) different U.S. District, State and Appellate Courts. He also has extensive experience arbitrating matters before tribunals of the Society of Maritime Arbitrators ("SMA") in New York; has conducted countless court-ordered and private mediations; and has assisted in presenting claims before the London High Court of Justice.


He is a former Director of the New York Chapter of the Federal Bar Association Admiralty Section; past President of the Propeller Club of New York and New Jersey; a member of the Board of the International Propeller Club; and a Member of the Maritime Law Association of the United States; the Connecticut Maritime Association; New York State Bar Association; American Bar Association; Houston Mariner's Club; and the North American Maritime Ministry Association's (NAMMA).


In addition, Mr. Chalos has earned the high distinction of being recognized as a Proctor in Admiralty by fellow members of the Maritime Law Association of the United States. He is a contributing member and author for the Shiparrested.com network, an international network of lawyers who specialize in handling ship arrests and attachments around the world.


Mr. Chalos is admitted to practice in the Supreme Court of the United States, the United States Court of Appeals for the First, Second, Fourth, Fifth, Ninth, Eleventh, and District of Columbia Circuits, and the following U.S. Federal District courts: the Southern District of New York; the Eastern District of New York; the Northern District of New York; the District of Connecticut; the Southern District of Texas; the Eastern District of Texas; the Central District of Illinois; the District of Columbia, the Central District of Utah; and the Northern District of Florida. In addition, he is a member of the Bar of the States of New York, Texas, and Utah, and is admitted to practice law before all trial and appellate courts sitting in the States of New York, Texas, and Utah.


Mr. Chalos has authored numerous scholarly articles, which have been published in law journals and bar association newsletters and is regularly called upon as a speaker at conferences throughout the world.
