WFSA - Supporting Association

The Worldwide Ferry Safety Association (WFSA) mission is to prevent fatalities at sea and to expand the use of safe ferries globally. The not-for-profit organization works in the realm of information, research and technology. Activities include an annual international student design competition now in its ninth year for which a panel of judges selects the awardees who receive $10,000 in total. In addition WFSA convenes an international ferry safety and technology conference directed toward the needs of operators. WFSA also conducts research, currently on a project with colleagues in Indonesia to improve detection and communication about impending (nowcast) maritime weather, which is being funded by the Lloyd’s Register Foundation. Currently the Worldwide Ferry Safety Association is also working under contract with the World Bank, consulting on a ferry safety project.
