Rana KhoweiledLegal Case Handler at Egyptian Competition Authority
Rana is a case handler and legal researcher, with almost three years of experience working closely with both businesses and government on competition related matters, specifically anti-competitive practices and M&A.
Rana joined the Egyptian Competition Authority (ECA) in 2018. Since joining ECA, Rana worked on both enforcement and advocacy of competition law and policy in Egypt. She led several antitrust cases covering a wide range of sectors including, inter alia, electronics, steel, telecommunication, food and agriculture, and digital economy. In addition, Rana has participated in drafting amendments to the Law No. 3 of 2005 on the Protection of Competition and its Executive Regulations, consisting mainly of the introduction of the first ex-ante Egyptian merger control regime.
Rana obtained a dual diploma from Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne and Cairo University, a master’s degree from Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne in International Economic Law, and a diploma in Competition Law from Loyola University Chicago School of Law.
Prior to that, Rana was a legal intern at three of the leading law firms in Egypt, which gave her a diversified experience in multiple legal disciplines, including the fields of general corporate, commercial, and employment law.
