Birthe Panhans

Deputy Head of Unit, DG Competition at European Commission

Birthe Panhans is a Head of Unit at DG COMP’s merger control unit in charge of transport and other services since 2021, having practiced competition law within DG COMP since 2012. Birthe has focussed on merger control throughout her career at DG COMP, first focussing on Basic industries, manufacturing and agriculture, then moving to the policy and coordination unit before focusing on transport and other services. A qualified German lawyer, Birthe also holds an LL.M. in international law as well as a degree in political science. Before joining the European Commission, she worked for the German Ministry for Economic Affairs.
