Peter Willis is a partner in Bird & Bird's Competition & EU team. He provides no-nonsense advice on the application of EU and national competition and regulatory rules. He has particular expertise in the energy sector, where clients rely on his in-depth understanding of the complex technical, commercial and regulatory arrangements governing the operation of energy networks and markets. Recent experience includes advising in the UK judicial review following the Tempus judgment on the GB capacity market, a successful appeal to the ACER Board of Appeal, advising on numerous issues raised by the Clean Energy Package and EU network codes, as well as defending a company in a REMIT investigation. He also has considerable experience of advising on disputes between businesses in which competition and regulatory issues arise, including competition follow-on damages claims and state aid disputes. Peter is a regular speaker on competition and regulatory issues at conferences around Europe, and is often asked to explain complex competition and regulatory issues in the press and media. He is the author of well-received books and articles on EU and UK competition law, and is the author of the REMIT chapter of GCR’s “Guide to Energy Market Manipulation”, published in February 2018.
