William Godwin QCLegal Member, FIDIC Updates Task Group at 3 Hare Court
William has over thirty years’ experience as a barrister advising and acting in construction and technology disputes before arbitrators and the English courts. He also sits as an arbitrator in ICC and other international arbitral tribunals and as a construction adjudicator.

William is a graduate of University College London (first class) and Oxford University (BPhil, DPhil (PhD)). He is a visiting law lecturer at City, University of London and author of numerous publications on construction, commercial and arbitration law. He is proficient in German. Between 2014 and 2021 he was a director of the Great Britain China Centre.
William’s extensive experience covers both international and UK projects of all kinds, including EPC/turnkey projects, civil engineering works, process and energy plant, off-shore structures, shipbuilding and design and professional liability issues. He is an accredited adjudicator and arbitrator of the English Technology and Construction Bar Association. He has particular expertise in FIDIC contracts and was legal member of the FIDIC Updates Task Group responsible for drafting the second edition of the FIDIC Red, Yellow and Silver Books. In 2020 Wiley Blackwell published his guide to the new contracts, The 2017 FIDIC Contracts: the Second Editions of the Red, Yellow and Silver Books.
