Morris van VoornveldNational Coordinator at Seafarers' Welfare Board of New Zealand
Morris is National Coordinator for the Seafarers Welfare Board for New Zealand responsible for the NZ Government contract for services to seafarers at New Zealand ports. He joined shortly after the contract was signed. The money currently allows for seven staff to be employed at across several ports as well as providing some financial support at other ports.
He had previously worked as a shipping agent for over forty years, being made redundant in July of 2020 thanks to a lack of cruise vessels and the resulting negative effect on the revenue of the company. Morris had worked in several different New Zealand ports, eventually reaching his current port which is Wellington. He was involved for a number of years in the executive of the Shipping Agents Association and specialised in liaising with Maritime New Zealand on behalf of the Agents Association.
Outside interests include involvement with Mission to Seafarers Wellington of which he is currently the Chairperson and Scouting being a leader at his local group. He resides in Wellington, New Zealand.
