Marie Caillere
Course Leader at Lloyd's Maritime Academy

Profile

Marie Caillerie joined the French Merchant Navy Academy in Marseilles in 1993 and was trained both as a Marine Engineer and a Master. After her cadetship on chemical tankers, bulk-carriers, ferries and ro-ro, she served as a 3rd Engineer and a 2nd Mate on large bulk-carriers and cable-layers, and as an Environmental Officer on P&O Cruise ships. In 2003 she re-directed her career ashore to work as a lecturer in Technical English and Maritime Regulations for the French Maritime Academy and obtained as well a B.A. in English. She then collaborated with the International Maritime Organization (Conference Division) as a technical translator, and provided trainings on technical subjects reviewed during IMO Committees and meetings. In 2009 she joined Classification society Bureau Veritas where she then headed the statutory department and was in charge of statutory surveys procedures. She participated to several IMO Sub-Committees and worked more specifically for the FSI Sub-Committee Drafting and Working groups. She also delivered frequent trainings on statutory matters to BV Surveyors. Her interest for maritime regulations brought her back to university in 2011 and she obtained a Master’s degree in Maritime Law at Plymouth University. Today Marie has set up her consultancy company, NauticaLex, and still works as a technical translator and lecturer for the IMO Conference Division. She also writes articles on maritime regulations for the specialized newspaper Le Marin.
