George Peretz QC (England and Wales) BL (Ireland) is a barrister practising from Monckton Chambers in London and from the Law Library of Ireland in Dublin. George has considerable experience in advising and representing public and private sector clients on State aid issues, including appearances in the European Court of Justice and General Court. He has particular experience of advising government and private clients on the interplay between State aid and tax, having advised on a number of high profile issues in that area. Recent highlights include extensive advice on the Flood Re scheme to secure affordable flood insurance for those in homes at flood risk, representing the UK on the notification of the Emergency Services Mobile Communications Programme and successfully representing the UK tax authority in Credit Suisse v HMRC  EWHC 1922 (Ch) (a claim that the 2010 “bankers’ bonus tax” was unlawful State aid). He is Joint Convenor of the UK State Aid Law Association and the UK reporter for the European State Aid Quarterly, and has written widely on State aid issues including contributions to leading text books on State aid, academic articles as well as articles for a wider audience and commentary on State aid law and Brexit on social media (@GeorgePeretzQC on Twitter).
