Profile

Adam Ward is an international relations expert specialising in geopolitics and questions of global governance. He has spent 20 years in world-class research centres, working at the intersection of government, business and policy analysis. He began his career in political and economic risk consulting.

Adam was Deputy Director of Chatham House, where he oversaw a dozen research programmes focusing on questions of security, sustainability and international order.

He was previously Director of Studies of the International Institute for Strategic Studies, supervising research teams producing assessments on global defence trends and military capabilities, regional security dynamics, active armed conflicts, and transnational challenges ranging from cyber and nuclear proliferation to terrorism.

Adam was for four years Executive Director of the Washington DC office of the IISS, where he had responsibility for leading engagement of the State Department, Pentagon and National Security Council and the US expert community.

He has as an extensive background in analysis of Indo-Pacific affairs with a specialisation in Chinese foreign policy.

Adam has participated in public dialogues with heads and state and government, cabinet ministers, leaders of intergovernmental organisations and chairs of corporate Boards. He has been called on to advise foreign and defence ministries and briefed executives in the banking and finance, energy and extractives, and defence and aerospace sectors, and has also briefed international Family Offices.

He holds an MA in International Studies and BA in German and Politics, both from the University of Warwick.
