Profile

Dr Andreas Klasen is Professor of International Business and Director of the Institute for Trade and Innovation (IfTI) at Offenburg University, focusing on new and pioneering answers to issues in innovation, climate finance, global trade and sustainable leadership. He has widely published in the areas of innovation and trade policy, government financing instruments and global economic governance. Recent publications include “The Handbook of Global Trade Policy” (editor, Wiley, 2020), “Innovationen für eine digitale Wirtschaft” (contributing author, Springer, 2020) and “Beyond Gridlock” (contributing author, Polity, 2017).

Professor Klasen is also Partner with the consultancy firm TradeRx, advising multilateral institutions, governments, innovation funds, development banks and export credit agencies on analytics, strategy and operational performance. For example, he advised ADB, Afreximbank, AIIB, EIB and the World Bank as well as governments and government agencies in Armenia, Botswana, Canada, Denmark, Egypt, Finland, Germany, Jamaica, the Netherlands, Nigeria, Norway, Oman, Saudi Arabia, Spain, Switzerland, the United Arab Emirates and the United Kingdom. In addition, Dr Klasen serves as a Visiting Professor at Northumbria University, External Examiner at City, University of London, and is Honorary Fellow at Durham University’s School of Government and International Affairs.

Previously, he was a Partner with PwC, Co-Head and Managing Director of the German Export Credit Agency, as well as Head of Guarantees and Export Finance at Airbus Group (formerly EADS). He also served as the Vice President of the Berne Union. Andreas Klasen studied Law, Business and Theology at the University of Würzburg (Germany), the University of Hannover (Germany), Northumbria University (UK) and the University of St Andrews (UK). He holds Masters degrees and a Doctorate in these subjects.
