Bhavtik C. Vallabhjee has over 24 years of Corporate & Merchant Banking experience in South Africa and in the Middle East. He has been engaged in structuring major project finance transactions in sectors such as power (incl. Renewable Energy), water, oil & gas, telecoms, transportation, healthcare & industrial projects. He has worked on several deals in the Middle East and a number of African countries. He has been involved in executing transactions with an aggregate value in excess of US$23bn in his career. He spent 5 years in the Middle East at the height of its infrastructure spending boom where he was a Project Finance banker there (including with GE Capital in Dubai).

After returning to 2010, he had joined Standard Bank’s Corporate & Investment Banking division’s Power & Infrastructure team where he specifically focused on Renewable Energy and was part of the team that successfully closed 17 projects with total debt underwrites of ZAR15bn. He is currently Head of Power, Utilities & Infrastructure sector at Absa Corporate & Investment Banking (formerly Barclays Africa) and works across conventional & renewable power technologies and Infrastructure in Africa. Most recently, he is part of the team that have closed 12 projects across technologies in Renewables with a R22 bn debt commitment.

He is a qualified Chartered Management Accountant (UK), has an MBA in Finance from Stellenbosch Business School in Cape Town, South Africa, two Honours and a Bachelors degree in Accountancy & Finance.
