A pioneer in the field of Applied Improvisation (and one of only 52 international Certified Applied Improvisation Facilitators), Applied Creativity, and Organizational Creativity coaching, training and consulting, Michelle James, CEO of The Center for Creative Emergence, has been working with entrepreneurs, leaders, and corporate teams to use creativity and applied improvisation for better collaboration and business outcomes for two decades. She founded and curated the Capitol Creativity Network in Washington, DC, the Applied Creativity Network online, the Creativity in Business Summit, and two sold out Creativity in Business Conferences in DC.
She is a 20-year practitioner of Improvisational Theater (and performed full-length improvised plays with Precipice Improv for 10 years) and a charter member of the Applied Improvisation Network. She has designed original programs that have been featured on television, podcasts, and in several books. Some of her clients have included Microsoft, Deloitte, GEICO, Panasonic, John Deere, World Bank, PepsiCo, Kaiser Permanente, National Institutes of Health, Invest Northern Ireland, and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association to name a few. She is adjunct faculty for the Federal Executive Institute, facilitating ongoing Improv for Leaders workshops since 2013, and is working on a book, Pattern Breaks: A Facilitator’s Guide to Cultivating Creativity and Emergence due out later this year.
