Sean McCluskeySr R&D Engineer, Design Optimization/Special Projects at Joby Aviation
Profile
Sean McCluskey is a Senior R&D Engineer and former Head of Additive Manufacturing at Joby Aviation, a mobility company that is building fully-electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) passenger aircraft optimized to deliver an air taxi service. Inspired by the beauty of mechanical systems prevalent during his upbringing on a small ranch in South Dakota, Sean has dedicated his academic and professional career to finding the limits of design and manufacturing. While an undergraduate at Stanford University, Sean co-wrote and co-taught the first Design for Additive Manufacturing course at the Stanford Graduate School of Engineering. Putting a hold on his Master's Degree in 2016, Sean joined Carbon Inc as a Mechanical Design Engineer before rising to Head of Special Projects and Production Engineering to promote wide-spread adoption of polymer AM for commercial applications. At Joby Aviation, Sean has grown a global team and raised Joby's use of AM from select rapid prototyping to over 25,000 parts per year spread across tooling, prototyping, assembly, and end-use flight components.
