Julian Bailey is a partner in the London office, practising in the International Arbitration and Construction and Engineering Groups. He advises on contentious international construction and infrastructure projects across a variety of industries, including transport, energy, petrochemical, process plant and construction. Julian has been active in the Middle East representing sovereign governments, developers and contractors in large construction and engineering disputes in Qatar, the UAE, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Egypt, Jordan and Iraq.

Julian is actively involved in construction law issues and was Chairman of the Society of Construction Law (UK) (2015-2016), the leading industry body for construction law. Currently, Julian sits on the governing council for the Society of Construction Law (Gulf). He is also the author of one of the leading books on construction law, now in its second edition.

In 2009, Julian was seconded (part-time) to assist Lord Justice Jackson with his review of civil litigation costs. Julian assisted him by conducting research on costs laws in foreign jurisdictions (specifically, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, France, Germany and the Netherlands), and travelled with him to France and Germany to review the laws of those countries (meeting with judges and lawyers). Julian also assisted in preparing first drafts of chapters and sections of Lord Justice Jackson's Preliminary Report and his Final Report. The major recommendations made by Lord Justice Jackson were implemented in England and Wales in April 2013.

Julian is Adjunct Professor of Law at Hamad bin Khalifa University, Doha, and lectures on infrastructure development law as part of the university's J.D. programme.
