Sebastian Villyn
Head of Risk & Compliance at Lloyd’s List Intelligence


Sebastian Villyn is a Consultant in Control Risks’ Maritime Risk Analysis function, which provides dedicated maritime security research and analysis to the company’s clients and support to a range of internal departments and projects. Sebastian maintains Control Risks’ online subscription service Maritime Security Online, and delivers bespoke consultancy on issues such as piracy, maritime terrorism and other threats to the commercial maritime environment. Sebastian has also facilitated a number of maritime risk workshops with the aim of delivering practical and realistic risk mitigation solutions.

Prior to joining Control Risks Sebastian worked at the Norwegian Embassy in Tokyo on the political desk, and at the International Maritime Organization (IMO) in London where he wrote his postgraduate thesis on maritime piracy. He also spent one year in the Norwegian Navy as a certified scuba diver for the Coast Guard.

Sebastian holds a MA in Conflict, Security and Development from the War Studies Department at King’s College London and is a certified International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code Company Security Officer (CSO) and Port Facility Security Officer (PFSO).
