Archie RavishankarFounder & CEO at Cogni
Archie Ravishankar is a global citizen, and the founder and CEO of Cogni, the first digital banking platform that combines payments, commerce, and lifestyle on a single application. From a very young age, Archie has been engaged in global organizations where he’s represented the perspective of the next generation. This early experience helped set the tone for his professional career and is partially responsible for leading him to found Cogni and envision a financial super-app for the next generation. It is designed based on their unique needs now, and their changing role as consumers in the commercial and economic environment they will soon inherit.
Archie understands the challenges younger generations face and how in most parts of the world, being young and starting out is a costly proposition. Cogni will first launch in the U.S., where the average college graduate is saddled with student debt, a high cost of living, and a lack of social services. After paying for the essentials, they don’t have money left for anything else. Yet even “free” bank accounts have set minimum and high penalties for falling below, along with overdraft and maintenance fees. Making the customer pay for the privilege of the bank holding their money.
Cogni’s is the first viable alternative in a banking system that is predatory by default. Its core features are designed to offer a level of reprieve by enabling users to build credit, manage their finances, and make purchase decisions based on their individual needs while maintaining their privacy and choosing which personal data they will share. Over time, Cogni will reinvent commerce by connecting merchants with customers directly, removing intermediaries, advertisers, and the data traders that serve as gatekeepers to global consumer trade.
A noted thought leader on the Future of Work and an advocate for open banking and accessible finance, Archie has spoken on these topics and others at major global events, including The European Internet Forum, Webit, Transatlantic Week, Horasis, and Mobile World Congress. In 2018, New Europe named Ravishankar as one of the 100 Global Thought Leaders. He is a global citizen, currently residing in New York, he born in India and raised in Australia, and he has lived in Hong Kong, Denmark, Ireland, and London.
