David HeronHead of Standards at Pay.uk
As Head of Standards, David provides steer and oversight for how Pay.UK sets and maintains messaging standards for UK retail payments.
Much of this focuses on unlocking the benefits that can be enabled via an improvement in the quality and quantity of data being sent: from businesses improving their e-invoicing reconciliation processes (via the sending of remittance data) to tax administration being made easier (through the inclusion of accurate tax codes and data); from banks using Purpose Codes to identify suspect payments sooner to personal customers getting certainty a payment has been received (via a unique tracking number).
Over the past 18 months, Pay.UK has published multiple "collections" of technical materials containing relevant ISO 20022 information needed for the New Payments Architecture (NPA). But beyond Clearing and Settlement, David and his team also engage with many beneficiaries of standardised information to understand how improved data quality can reduce the daily challenges that businesses and individuals face.
After completing his Ph.D at St. Andrews in 2008, David has worked for Barclays and the PRA.
