Gareth Davies
MP at House of Commons

Profile

Elected as the Member of Parliament for Grantham and Stamford in December 2019, Gareth previously worked for a c.$500bn global investment company, most recently as the Global Head of Responsible Investment Business. He holds degrees from the University of Nottingham and the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.

Gareth sits on both the Finance and Treasury Select Committees. He serves as Vice Chairman of the APPG on Sustainable Finance and the APPG for Financial Markets and Services, and is also Vice Chairman of the Advisory Board for the Campaign for Economic Growth.

In 2020, Gareth led calls in the House of Commons for the UK Government to issue its first ever Sovereign Green Bond and in a later report with the think tank, Onward, called for a new national development bank to boost private investment in national infrastructure projects. This year, he is campaigning for investors to better disclose links to modern slavery in investment portfolios, for pension auto-enrolment to be extended to 18–22-year-olds, and for the banking surcharge to be reduced or scrapped to make the UK more competitive in financial services. In a second report with Onward, he recently put forward a series of proposals for scaling the UK’s social investment market which would help close the SME funding gap.

He is a committed champion of UK financial services in Parliament and writes regularly on industry matters.
