Krystal Brumfield
Board Member at Airport Minority Advisory Council


Krystal J. Brumfield is an attorney and accomplished corporate executive with more than 10 years’ experience of proven leadership in the public and private sectors. As a Board Member 'at large' of the Airport Minority Advisory Council (AMAC) she is dedicated to advancing the full participation of minorities and women in employment and contracting opportunities throughout the aviation and aerospace industries.

Previously, Krystal joined the Carlyle Group’s CAG Holdings in June 2019 as the company’s first Chief of Staff (COS). A position she held until recently, acting a senior advisor to the CEO and responsible for the overall day-to-day corporate management and execution of processes and policies in support of the organization’s mission.

Krystal served as the President and CEO of the Airport Minority Advisory Council (AMAC), a non-profit dedicated to promoting the full participation of minority-owned, women-owned and disadvantaged business enterprises (M/W/DBEs) in contracting opportunities and professional development throughout the aviation and aerospace industries. Krystal worked with Congress, the Federal government, aviation trade associations and others as a resource for information, education and guidance on business and employment matters. Krystal also provided leadership to AMAC’s strategic planning process and implements new programmatic strategic initiatives.

Krystal previously served as the Vice President and Chief Operating Officer at the DC Chamber of Commerce where she was responsible for developing, implementing, and managing the operational aspects of the annual budget. Krystal has also worked as Tax and Procurement Counsel for the Unites States Senate Committee on Small Business and Entrepreneurship, chaired by Senator Mary Landrieu (D-LA). As Counsel, Krystal was responsible for steering the Committee’s tax and contracting legislative agenda. She also vetted nominees to the Small Business Administration. As part of her responsibilities, Krystal traveled the country educating small business owners about relevant federal tax and contracting laws.

Before joining the Committee, Krystal worked as a Staff Attorney at the Louisiana Department of Revenue, where she regularly represented the State before Louisiana trial courts and the Board of Tax Appeals. A graduate of Southern University with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting, Krystal earned a Juris Doctorate from the Southern University Law Center, and obtained a Master of Laws in Taxation from the University of Florida Levin College of Law.

Krystal has traveled to Uganda and Lesotho to teach legislative drafting at the International Law Institute – African Centre for Legal Excellence. She has also traveled to the Republic of China (Taiwan) as part of a U.S. Congressional Staff Delegation. While there, Krystal met with country officials to discuss matters in tax, trade, commerce, transportation, and finance.

In 2015, Krystal was honored as a Distinguished Alumni at her alma mater, Southern University Law Center. This award is presented annually to alumni who have made significant civic, community, or professional contributions.

In 2016, Krystal was selected as a Google Next Gen Policy Leader. In 2017, Krystal was appointed as a Commissioner of the DC Water and Sewer Authority Board of Directors by DC Mayor Muriel Bowser. Krystal also serves on the Board of Directors of the Providence Hospital Foundation in Washington, DC. In 2018, Krystal was named #1 in DiversityPlus Magazine’s Top 25 Women in Power Impacting Diversity.
