Matthew B. Siano, Esq. is Managing Director, General Counsel of Two Sigma Investments, LP, Two Sigma Advisers, LP, Two Sigma Investor Solutions, LP (and their various affiliates), a group of global investment managers specializing in quantitative investing and advising across a broad range of asset classes. Mr. Siano is also the General Counsel of Two Sigma Securities, LLC, an affiliated, FINRA-registered broker-dealer, Sightway Capital, LP, Two Sigma’s private investments adviser, Two Sigma Insurance Quantified, LLC, Two Sigma’s insurance analytics business, and all of Two Sigma’s international affiliates and subsidiaries.
Two Sigma and its various U.S. and non-U.S. affiliates currently manage numerous hedge funds, private investment pools, private equity funds, managed accounts, joint ventures and registered investment products with well over $50 billion in third-party assets under management. As Two Sigma’s General Counsel, Mr. Siano is responsible for the firm’s legal, regulatory, compliance and government affairs matters and is the head of their legal, compliance and government affairs departments. Mr. Siano joined Two Sigma in July 2004.
From September 1999 through June 30, 2004, Mr. Siano was an associate in the Investment Management Group of Seward & Kissel LLP, a New York City-headquartered law firm with an industry-leading hedge fund practice. At Seward, Mr. Siano specialized in the formation and structuring of private investment funds (including hedge funds and private equity funds), representing registered and unregistered investment advisers, listing private investment funds on non-U.S. exchanges, advising clients on SEC, CFTC and FINRA filings, and providing overall corporate, securities and tax advice.
Mr. Siano (proudly) graduated cum laude from the College of William and Mary in 1996 with a B.A. in Government and History. While in Williamsburg, he also “minored” in Religion, published an honors thesis on the New York City public school system, earning High Honors, and founded a fraternity. In 1999, Mr. Siano earned a J.D. from Fordham Law School, where he was the Special Publications Editor for the Urban Law Journal and a member of the Fordham Moot Court Board.
In addition to his service to Two Sigma, Mr. Siano is also an adjunct professor on both the undergraduate and graduate levels at the Mason School of Business, the business school of William & Mary in Virginia. He is also a frequent lecturer and presenter on hedge funds and applicable laws and regulations, having spoken at events hosted by the American Bar Association, Bloomberg, the Corporate Lawyering Association, Fordham Law School, the International Bar Association, the Practicing Law Institute, the Regulatory Compliance Association and various U.S. and international law firms. He has also presented numerous times on these topics to, among others, the U.S. Securities & Exchange Commission, the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission, the U.K. Financial Services Authority, the U.K. Parliament (House of Lords Committee on Financial Services), the French AMF, the E.U. Central Bank, the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and the New York District Attorney’s Office.
Finally, and maybe most importantly, he is a (grateful) member of the Mason School of Business Foundation Board of Trustees, an active real estate redeveloper in Buffalo, New York, a lifelong, diehard fan of the New York Yankees (i.e., the most successful professional sports franchise in human history) and a proud father of two teenage boys.
