William V. de Cordova is the Editor-in-Chief of The Hedge Fund Law Report. In his role as Editor-in-Chief, Bill oversees all editorial content, ensuring that the HFLR continues to present incisive analysis of key developments on topics including rulemaking, compliance, case law, regulation, enforcement, taxation, derivatives, marketing, best practices and more. Bill manages a team with backgrounds in hedge fund law, compliance, accounting and operations, financial journalism, regulation and academia, and he collaborates with leading lawyers, compliance professionals, regulators and thought leaders in relevant fields to generate content for the HFLR’s subscribers.
Bill joined the HFLR from Investcorp’s New York-based Hedge Fund group, where he served as legal counsel since 2007 and general counsel of Investcorp’s hedge funds business since 2009. During his seven-year tenure at Investcorp, he was responsible for the performance of all in-house legal counsel duties for Investcorp’s hedge funds line of business, including its customized funds of hedge funds, single manager platform and special opportunities portfolios.
Prior to joining Investcorp, Bill practiced law as a senior associate in the corporate and investment management practices of Arnold & Porter LLP. Prior to that, he worked at Dorsey & Whitney LLP as an associate in the firm’s corporate and investment management practices. At both firms, Bill represented hedge funds, registered investment advisers, commodity pool operators, commodity trading advisors, broker-dealers and introducing brokers, and advised on various private fund structures, including hedge funds, funds-of-funds, private equity funds and public futures funds.
Bill received his bachelor’s degree in History cum laude from Princeton University and his JD from the Georgetown University School of Law.
