Erik van BallegooijenDirector R&D at VAF Instruments
Van Ballegooijen has graduated from 2 Technical University studies on Mechanical Engineering and Process & Product Design. After graduation he worked for 18 years at Wärtsilä Propulsion where he started in 1997 as a ship propeller designer (hydrodynamicist). Since 2001 he headed for Wärtsilä various operational engineering and project management departments. From 2009 onwards he shifted towards R&D and headed various Research and Development departments all related to ship propulsion product development and design. Since 2015 Van Ballegooijen is heading the VAF Instruments R&D team, responsible for sensor development, application development, and for providing customer consultancy on hydrodynamic data analysis. One of the main development projects he is responsible for relates to the application of propeller efficiency measurement instruments and the IVY ship propulsion performance measurement solution, which was in 2016 awarded the FATHOM Ship Efficiency Award.
