Georgios ChristofiHead of Unit, Capacity Building, Sustainability and Technical Assistance at EMSA
Born in Limassol, Cyprus in 1971 with a Diploma and master’s degree in Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering. Worked in the private sector as a Naval Architect before joining the Maritime Administration of Cyprus, where he served for 10 years as Flag and Port State Control Inspector, Flag and ISM coordinator. From July 2009 to January 2013 was posted as Counsellor for Maritime Affairs in the Permanent Representation of the Republic of Cyprus to the European Union. From 16/01/2013 until 31/12/2019, he served as Head of Unit for Environment and Capacity Building in EMSA, responsible for the technical assistance and support to the European Commission and Member States for the prevention of pollution by ships and matters related to Port State Control. Since 01/01/2020 he is the Head of the newly established Capacity Building Unit and the EMSA Academy, that will be providing formal, non-formal and informal educational services, according to the needs and to specific curricula as well as the implementation of SAFEMED IV and Black and Caspian Sea Projects.
