Seagoing career from 1971 – 1983, trading on all seven continents.
Studied naval architecture from 1983 to 1987. Worked for Burmeister & Wain Shipyard from 1987 to 1996.
From 1996 and onwards employed by BIMCO. Spent some 10 weeks annually in IMO and participated in three expert groups, latest in 2007 on amendments to MARPOL Annex VI.
From 1 March 2010 Director of Regulatory Affairs in A.P.Moller-Maersk. Chairing the Technical Committee of the Danish Shipowners’ Association.
Resigned from A.P.Moller-Maersk by end of 2016. Travelled the world incl. 10 weeks on a 48’ sailboat across the Pacific. Niels Bjørn is now working as private consultant and is a.o. acting as spokesman for the Clean Shipping Alliance 2020.
