Health Catalyst aims to help drug firms and CROs find trial participants

Health Catalyst has launched a service to help drug firms and CROs to make the most of the clinical databases.

The service – known as the Health Catalyst Research Offering – is designed to connect CROs and drug firms with hospitals and medical centres to help all those involved identify patients suitable for clinical trials.

Health Catalyst has created a cloud-based, searchable research network that can be accessed by hospitals, medical centres, biopharma companies, and CROs. The search function allows users to carry out clinical trial feasibility analyses and find patients eligible for real-world studies.

Sadiqa Mahmood, general manager and senior vice president for the firm’s life sciences business, said part of the motivation for setting up the service was to help organisations recruiting for trials cast the net wider.

"For decades, clinical research has been heavily biased towards a finite number of leading urban medical centres, which tap into the same patient populations for clinical trial recruitment time and time again.

"Unfortunately, the vast majority of citizens don't have an opportunity to participate, and a majority of clinical studies fail to enrol on time. Our new Health Catalyst Research Offering gets to the heart of these dual issues, using research-grade data as a way to connect more patients with clinical research opportunities."

The launch was welcomed by CJ Anderson, president of community-based research services firm Cognitive Clinical Trials, who cited growing demand for non-traditional studies models as a major driver.

"This new solution couldn't come at a better time, as more and more sponsors and CROs shift their focus to digital or decentralized trials.

"The Health Catalyst Research Offering is a pivotal piece in the decentralized puzzle as it helps sponsors and CROs find new patient populations that we know fit key inclusion/exclusion criteria. This shortens that critical study start-up time so sponsors and CROs can start screening patients and meet their enrolment goals."
