Nancy Mueller Handal is an Executive Vice President and Senior Managing Director at MetLife Investment Management. She is the head of Private Fixed Income and Alternatives and is responsible for private debt investments, residential whole loan investment and securitization, alternative investments, investment management oversight, workouts, sustainable investment strategies and index strategies.
Private Fixed Income comprises direct and agented investments in private corporate and infrastructure debt, leasing, tax credits and residential mortgage loans. Alternatives includes limited partnership investments in hedge funds, venture capital and private equity as well as direct middle market senior, mezzanine and equity investments. Investment management oversight entails vetting, approving and monitoring MetLife’s separate account investment managers. Index strategies includes both fixed income and equity index accounts.
Prior to leading the Private Fixed Income and Alternatives group, Mueller Handal led the Global Structured Products Group at MetLife Investment Management. Since joining MetLife in 2000, Mueller Handal has held positions of increasing responsibility, including the head of structured finance and alternatives, the head of RMBS, agency and non-agency RMBS trader and portfolio manager, and global ABS credit analyst.
Mueller Handal received an undergraduate degree in economics and philosophy from The University of Michigan and earned her MBA in finance and accounting from The University of Rochester’s Simon School of Business. In 2018, Mueller Handal joined the Board of Directors of the Simon Women’s Alliance. She is a CFA charterholder and a member of the NYSSA.
Mueller Handal presently sits on the Board of Directors of the Structured Finance Association Foundation in addition to the Board of Directors of the Structured Finance Association and serves on MetLife’s employee benefits Investment Advisory Committee. In 2019, Mueller Handal was awarded the Reggie Imamura Award for Outstanding Contribution to the structured finance industry and in 2016, was named MetLife’s Working Mother of the Year by Working Mother magazine.
