Dr Daniel Shaw works in J A Kemp’s life sciences and biotechnology group and is based in the firm’s Cambridge office. Prior to entering the patent profession, he completed an undergraduate degree in Natural Sciences (Biochemistry) and a PhD in Plant Molecular Biology both at the University of Cambridge.
He offers expertise across a wide variety of life sciences-related disciplines, including diagnostics, therapeutics, microbiology, plant molecular biology, genetic modification, antibody-based technologies, vaccines and medical devices. Daniel represents a wide range of clients, including a world-leading seed company, a top US biotech company, a renowned UK university, as well as Japanese, Korean and US law firms.
Much of Daniel’s practice is focused on helping his clients obtain European patent protection for their inventions, but he also has extensive experience of preparing new patent applications; handling international and foreign cases; monitoring third party patent applications; and opposing/defending granted patents at the European Patent Office. Additionally, his practice has included managing pan-European portfolios of supplementary protection certificate (SPC) applications and providing infringement, patentability and freedom-to-operate opinions.
