Tom is a US registered patent attorney with over seventeen years of legal experience in the intellectual property field. Tom is a member in good standing of the Utah State Bar and the Washington, D.C. Bar. Tom Siepmann holds a US juris doctor degree in law (J.D.), a doctorate degree (Ph.D.) in biochemistry, and was a post-doctoral fellow conducting independent organic chemistry research in the field of breast cancer. Tom has scientific expertise in the fields of biochemistry, molecular biology, photolithography, cell biology, genetics, polymer science, battery technology, organic chemistry, monoclonal antibody and CAR-T technology, vaccine technology, protein chemistry, nucleic acid chemistry, and diagnostics/medical devices. In addition to partner-level experience at a major US east-coast law firm, Tom has experience working as in-house Director of IP at a cutting edge biotech company in Silicon Valley, California.

Tom is owner of Siepmann IP, providing experienced, flexible, responsive, "fit-to-purpose" and dedicated intellectual property services to chemical and biotech industry innovators from start-up to blue chip, as well as academic and research institutions for strategic global patent prosecution. Services include legal counseling regarding intellectual property licensing, strategic patent preparation and prosecution, patent validity/invalidity opinions, freedom-to-operate analyses, infringement/non-infringement opinions, and strategic global patent portfolio prosecution. • Assisted in representation of Mayo Clinic in a patent interference before the USPTO involving claims to PD-L1 and its uses as a checkpoint inhibitor (see, Chen (Mayo) v. Freeman (Dana-Farber) and Chen (Mayo) v. Kingsbury (Dana-Farber), Interference Nos. 105,872, 105,884, 105,885, 105,887, and 105,901, Decision on Priority, Pat. Trial Appeal Board, 2014);
• Drafted and filed dozens of patent applications while Director of IP at Affymetrix, Inc. in Santa Clara, CA (see, USPN 9,798,855 and 8,846,899);
• Drafted and filed a US patent application for a lifestyle startup in Boston focused on treatment of overweight and obese patients (see, USPN 10,638,786);
• Drafted and filed a PCT patent application for an independent researcher previously working at the National Institutes of Health who discovered an Artificial Intelligence-based application for genetics research (see, WO 2020/0243526);
• Drafted and filed a family of PCT applications related to modified resins used in rubber compositions for tires and other uses (see, WO 2018/187243 and WO 2018/191185);
• Drafted and filed a new PCT patent application family directed to a disposable laboratory device aimed at purification of biological analytes (see, WO 2021/055735); and
• Drafted and filed a US patent application directed to a single person boat (see, USPN 10,926,839).
