IQVIA expands decentralized trials offering with dedicated nursing unit

IQVIA has expanded its decentralized trial offering with a dedicated mobile research nursing and blood sampling services unit.

The idea is to provide patients participating in clinical trials with access to a global network of high-quality, credentialed professionals that provide compassionate protocol-required care at their homes.

In addition to a variety of assessments and data and specimen collection, unit staff will also support direct-to-patient delivery and administration of investigational products.

Ronan Brown, global head of IQVIA Decentralized Trial Solutions, predicted the new unit would have a number of benefits for sponsors the firm works with.

“We believe combining clinical research and patient care produces better patient outcomes, reduces cost of care, and advances research that will benefit patients.

“This is another example of IQVIA’s continued investment in patient centric research experiences to demonstrate to participants that their health needs are the top priority of sponsors” Brown said.

Decentralized trials

Decentralized trials have become an increasingly import part of IQVIA’s business. In October the firm predicted demand for such studies would help increase its revenues, revealing that 30% of the studies it is running are using at least one part of its DCT platform.

According to its Q3 results, 89 of the clinical studies IQVIA is conducting at present are being fully run on its DCT platform by 34 sponsors, 10 of which have multiple such programs.

Speaking earlier this year, Costa Panagos, president, R&D Operations, IQVIA said growing demand for decentralized trials is being driven by sponsors’ need for greater flexibility.

“The idea is to design trials that fit into patients’ lives in a way that is seamless with their day-to-day activities and to capture important trial information, while reducing the burden on patients and investigators alike.

“It also means we adapt the way we support investigative sites globally with our study concierge service and other white glove solutions” he added.
