Jerzy KiszczakHead of Search and Rescue Department at Maritime Search and Rescue Service
I dreamed of being a sailor since I was a child. I thought about distant, exotic journeys. After high school I started studying at the Merchant Maritime Academy in Gdynia. After graduating, I started working in the Polish Salvage Company as a sailor on ocean going tugs and SAR vessels. Later, I worked in other companies as an officer on bulk cargo ships. That was a time when reality verified my childhood dreams, so after 2 years I returned to work in the maritime SAR service. In the meantime I worked also on sea tugs and AHTS in North Sea. Since 2002 I worked only on rescue ships. I went through all the stages of my career on the ship, from seaman to master Mariner. For many years I was a captain on a multipurpose and oil spills combating vessel. I took part in many international rescue and spill exercises. In 2016 I finished work on ships and started working in the office. I am currently the head of the search and rescue department in Polish SAR Service.
