Head of Legal and Governance & DPO at British Heart Foundation

Richard is the Head of Legal and Governance and Data Protection Officer at the British Heart Foundation. The BHF funds around £100 million per year of research into cardiovascular disease and is also the largest charity retailer in the UK, operating in all 4 nations. He leads a well-respected multi-disciplinary team to advise the Foundation on a range of legal and governance issues, which includes data protection. In addition, he presided over a major investment at the BHF in data protection compliance and his team has recently been shortlisted for a Data Protection Officer of the year award from the ICO. Prior to joining the BHF, Richard was an employment lawyer in private practice, primarily advising individuals and trade unions. He is also a Trustee and Company Secretary for AKT, a LGBT homelessness charity.
