Salvatore ScalzoPolicy and Legal Officer, AI, DG CNECT at European Commission
Salvatore Scalzo (Catanzaro, Italy, 1983) has been working for about ten years in the European Commission. He is currently a policy and legal officer in the Unit “Artificial Intelligence (AI) Policy Development and Coordination” of the Directorate General for “Communications Networks, Content and Technology” (DG CNECT) where he is working on the proposed EU legal framework on AI. Before joining DG CNECT, he had a six-year experience in the medical device Unit of the Directorate General for “Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs” (DG GROW) where he dealt with the negotiations and implementation of the new Regulations on medical devices (adopted in 2017) and regulatory issues related to new technologies in health. Salvatore Scalzo graduated with a Master’s of Science Degree in "European Studies" (with a Law track) at La Sapienza" University in Rome and with a research-oriented Master Programme “Analysing Europe” at Maastricht University in The Netherlands.
