Sandra Thompson is an IFRS expert specialising in financial instruments and financial services. She leads the global team in PwC’s technical accounting function. She specialises in the financial services sector including banks, building societies, insurance companies and asset managers, and in financial instruments and related consolidation issues under IFRS. She regularly advises clients and engagement teams on all aspects of IAS 32, IFRS 9, IFRS 7, IFRS 10, IFRS 16 and IFRS 17. She also advises on corporate treasury issues including hedge accounting, debt restructurings, financing arrangements and complex financing transactions.
Sandra is a member of the firms IFRS committees on banking, insurance, corporate treasury IFRS 9 classification measurement and impairment, hedge accounting, and leases. She is a regular speaker at conferences including PwC’s ‘Meet the Experts’ as well as at PwC training events. She also contributes to many PwC publications including the PwC Manual of Accounting. the popular You Tube series on demystifying IFRS 9 and IFRS Hot Topics, and recent publications on IBOR reform
Prior to joining PwC in 2005, Sandra was a Senior Project manager at the IASB where she led the IASB staff team dealing with financial instruments. Sandra maintains close links with IASB Board members and staff.
