Profile

Danny Geelen is professor at the department of Plant Production, Faculty of Bioscience Engineering, at Ghent University. He teaches a course on plant hormones and tissue culture and plant molecular biology. In recent years, his team has been identifying small molecules that stimulate root or shoot organogenesis. Thorough investigation of the plant physiological responses upon small molecule treatment often reveals a high level of spatial and temporal complexity. To provide insight into the mode of action of new growth regulators, detailed molecular studies are therefore required. His team’s objective is to identify master regulators, which are likely conserved elements across different species that can serve as future targets for modification, either by controlling environmental conditions or by applying specific treatments with plant growth regulators that affect the general physiological status of the plant.
